Sugar’s Copper Blue, Beaster, File Under: Easy Listening set for multi-disc reissues
The complete studio output of Bob Mould’s acclaimed post-Hüsker Dü trio Sugar — 1992′s landmark Copper Blue, the 1993 companion EP Beaster and 1994 sophomore album File Under: Easy Listening — will be reissued in the U.K. later this spring in expanded multi-disc CD/DVD editions with “extra tracks and lush packaging.”
Demon Music Group will reissue Copper Blue on May 28 in a 2CD/1DVD set, with Beaster following on June 4 as a 1CD/1DVD package and FU:EL landing on June 11, also in a 2CD/1DVD format. No tracklists have been announced, but the label promises the Sugar reissues will be “in the same types of format as our successful reissues of both Suede and Jesus and Mary Chain.”
The U.K. label announced in January that it had signed the worldwide rights, excluding the U.S. and Japan, to the Bob Mould and Sugar catalogs; in addition to the pending reissues, the label noted that it “will also control a live album from Sugar,” which presumably is a reference to the 18-track The Joke Is Always On Us, Sometimes live bonus disc that came packaged with the first 25,000 copies of the band’s 1995 B-sides compilation Besides.
Demon Music Group also will release a 7-inch of Sugar’s “If I Can’t Change Your Mind,” backed with “Clownmaster,” for Record Store Day in the U.K. The release will be limited to just 750 copies.
Mould this year has been celebrating the 20th anniversary of Copper Blue by performing the album in full at Noise Pop and South By Southwest, with a handful of European shows still ahead.
Bob Mould “I Hate Alternative Rock”
I hope someone else is driving you
I hope someone else intelligent is driving you
Now the myth disintegrates
Nothing else is permanent
Morning jams.
Sorry, forgot to post this earlier. And I know you’re all extremely concerned with what CD I listen to while showering.
Husker Du “59 Times The Pain”
I should just rename this blog fuckyeahbobmould.
Oh, I forgot to mention this. At the show last night, Bob announced that he and his band would be doing a “very limited” number of shows in 2012 in which they will play Copper Blue in its entirety.
Fuck yes.

The picture at the top of this post is the poster I got at the show. #87 of 200.
Speaking of, here’s shoddy amateur video of the Bob Mould Band with Dave Grohl on drums performing Husker Du’s “New Day Rising.” Bob’s current band consists of Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster (who switched to guitar for this particular song), and Verbow bassist Jason Narducy.
The venue last night had a pretty strict no camera policy, so good amateur vids and pics are few and far between. The whole event last night was being filmed, so I assume a DVD will be released at some point. I’m planning on posting a setlist as soon as I can find one.
Edit: even watching this video gives me fucking chills. It was SO incredible seeing this last night.
Sugar “Tilted”
In honor of going to see a bunch of bands and artists pay tribute to Bob Mould tonight, here’s one of my favorite Sugar songs.
I only do these things to freak you out…
