Brett Netson “God Is Wrong”

Band Shirt Of The Day: Brett Netson
I got this shirt last night when I saw Brett and his band, The Hungry Ghost, open for Band of Horses at The Wiltern. Brett Netson is probably best known as a member ofBuilt To Spill, but he was also the frontman for an amazing band called Caustic Resinfor close to 20 years.
Simple Work For The Dead is the title of Brett’s debut solo record, which will be released on The New Black Records in the next few weeks.

Caustic Resin opening for Band of Horses. Fuck yes!
Edit: this is actually Brett Netson and the Hungry Ghost. Brett was the mastermind behind Caustic Resin though, and The Hungry Ghost played a few CR songs. It was awesome.

The Electronic Anthology Project “A Gloss Siren”

The Electronic Anthology Project is a side project of Built To Spill’s Doug Martsch and Brett Netson. Here, they have re-recorded seven BTS songs in the vein of an 80’s 12-inch remix. Each song even has a new title that is an anagram of its original.

“A Gloss Siren” is the synthy twin of “Israel’s Song,” which appeared on BTS’ classic album, There’s Nothing Wrong With Love.

Caustic Resin “Funky M.A.S.H.”

If Neil Young ever played in a fuzzed out, psychedelic indie rock band, they’d sound an awful lot like Caustic Resin. CR frontman, Brett Netson was in the original Built to Spill lineup (which recorded the band’s debut album, Ultimate Alternative Wavers). Years later, Netson would rejoin BTS as a permanent touring member, a move which seems to have temporarily sidelined Caustic Resin. “Funky M.A.S.H.” is from the 2000 album, The Afterbirth, which may or may not still be available on Alias Records.
