Treepeople “Filter”
I told myself to walk away
Telling myself it’s ok, it’s ok…
Treepeople “Pack of Lies”
From No Mouth Pipetting - a rare demo cassette the band self-released in 1988. Click the link to download the whole darn thing.
I can’t believe I told you
things I never even tell myself.
Treepeople “Ad Campaigns”
You say, “What about our children’s children?
Well what about genocide?”
Believe in, support corporations
With ad campaigns that tug at
your heart strings.
Treepeople “Handcuffs”
When your brain has an itch
Think of a scratch…
Why do the handcuffs have to be so tight?
Treepeople “Party”
Live at a warehouse in Seattle, June 1990. Look how young Doug looks!
I really wish these guys would reunite.
Treepeople “Liquid Boy”
Can’t tell when you’re talking to me
If you’re really saying anything
Can’t you say nothing?
Sometimes when you talk
The things you have to say
Are better left unsaid
Are better left in your head.
I hurt you
‘Cause I don’t want to hurt myself
When I want to
You’re right there and you’re uptight so
Lately everything you say sounds like everything you say
And I know what you’re talking about
But I don’t understand a word you say
I try to get away with getting more than I give you
Hope that you don’t notice that I am
I’ve been here for days
Won’t be here for a long time
Treepeople “Fishbasket”
I don’t know what you think
But I like to think,
Think of you…
Treepeople “Funnelhead”
Funnelhead has open mind
Wide on top to catch everything
Narrow at the bottom, to make sure that it all fits
Funnelhead takes what’s been said, brought it into brain translation
Funnelhead’s interpretation misses the point
Funnelhead has seen enough to know that there’s no black or white
It’s all off-white and dark grey
Funnelhead makes sure that what makes sense to him makes other people recognize
Funnelheads are cool
What you did not remember
Things you think you don’t believe
Funnelhead has open mind
Wide on top to catch everything
Narrow at the bottom, to make sure that it all fits
What you did not remember
Things you think you don’t believe
Treepeople “No Doubt”
From their stellar debut album, Guilt, Regret, Embarrassment.
‘Cuz I know all about sex and death
I could talk for hours…
State of Confusion were an eighties hardcore band that eventually morphed into Treepeople. Warning, these guys sound nothing like Treepeople. Still, this is a great record and you should all check it out.
Treepeople “Big Mouth Strikes Again”
I’m sure I’ve posted this before, but whatever. Treepeople covering The Smiths. Wicked rad.
Treepeople “Big Mouth Strikes Again”
I’m not a Smiths fan at all. But Treepeople covering Smiths is ok in my book.
Treepeople “(I’m Gonna) Miss You (When You’re Dead)”
I don’t talk with you very often
I don’t have much to say when I do
I can’t hold a conversation
Nothing seems worth talking about
I wake up, turn my brain off
Go to sleep, turn my brain on
I don’t miss you.
Band Shirt Of The Day: Treepeople
I got this shirt in 1995, shortly after I moved to Las Vegas. It’s an original C/Z Records design with Just Kidding and the C/Z logo on the back.
Fun fact: after I moved to L.A, I struck up a random friendship with a fellow named Daniel House. He found me on a website because I had Treepeople listed as a favorite band, so he sent me an email. Turns out Daniel is the owner of C/Z Records.
